ELJA MARIA
EVERYTHING IS IMPERMANENT
3 SEPT - 8 SEPT
Everything is impermanent is an evocative exploration of the transient nature of life, as captured by Elja Maria’s latest collection. This exhibition delves into the delicate interplay between permanence and impermanence, offering a visual journey that reflects the artist's personal experiences and philosophical insights.
At the core of this exhibition is the theme of impermanence—a concept that binds all ten works of art together. Each piece embodies the fleeting essence of existence, capturing moments of beauty, struggle, and transformation. Through layers of vibrant color, symbolic imagery, and dynamic compositions, Elja Maria illustrates how the ephemeral nature of life can shape and enrich our experiences.
This theme of impermanence is deeply personal to Elja Maria, reflecting her own journey of self-discovery and growth. The concept resonates with her experiences traveling and creating art in diverse locations, which have reinforced her understanding of impermanence in both life and art. The accompanying documentary on Java’s graffiti culture supports this theme, providing a broader context to her experiences and illustrating how the ephemeral nature of street art parallels the broader human experience. A significant amount of the works in this collection consists of multiple layers of paintings, each layer serving as a practice to stay engaged to the element of detachment of permanence.
Through Everything is Impermanent, Elja invites viewers to contemplate their own experiences of change and transformation, embracing the fleeting moments that define our lives. This exhibition serves as a reminder of the beauty found in the temporary and the power of accepting and embracing change.
